I.Wonder. Woman

<| Previous | Next |>

Made from recycled, found cake tins, painted and then covered with metres of sewing cotton. At the top is a Wonder Woman figurine.

The piece refers to the many skills a mother will need or need to learn as they parent their children. Being able to cook, mend, and store things for the future (the tins).

Walking around and spinning the tin laying down the cotton reflects the circular nature of everydayness. The layers of thread reference a ravelling and intimacy that family closeness can create.

We mothers oft feel we should be some sort of Wonder Woman, and before kids it’s an easier task. After kids we juggle, care, love, repeat domestic chores, earn an income or work unpaid in the home. This piece in homage to all the Wonder Women out there.
